When you think of Orlando, the first thing that probably comes to mind is theme parks. But beyond the teacups and roller coaster rides of Walt Disney World® Resort, Universal Studios and SeaWorld Orlando, there’s so much more to discover. In fact, Orlando is one of the top-rated places to live for young people and families. If you ask a realtor in the area, they’ll tell you that’s likely because the city offers something for everyone.

Just a 40-minute ride along on the I-4 or 408 from the tourist district, the Downtown Orlando neighborhoods of Thornton Park, SoDo and Colonialtown provide a front-row view to the vibrant restaurants, bars and nightlife that share the streets with high-rise office buildings and businesses. It’s where you’ll discover a mix of modern apartment complexes in the Mills 50 intersection, renovated craftsman homes in the Eola Heights Historic District, and upscale condos overlooking Lake Eola Park with its famous resident swans, weekly farmers’ market and a calendar of events beloved by the community.

The charming neighborhood of Audubon Park, celebrated for its main-street vibes, is a great place to find a starter home with rows of cozy and colorful mid-century options to choose from. It’s also where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of the city at Leu Gardens, a breathtaking setting for exotic and native Florida plants, family movie nights, and jazz concerts. Next door, the community of Baldwin Park offers a more contained, master-planned feel with its grand entryway lined with mansions, colonial-style townhomes dotted with greenspaces, and walking trails circling a central lake.

What brings many people to the Orlando area is the University of Central Florida, whose main campus crowns the east side of town. The nationally accredited college and one of the largest in the nation has its own championship football team, the UCF Knights, and a seemingly endless offering of cutting-edge facilities and areas of study. Many bright minds are also born out of Valencia College, similarly located on the east side of the city.

Just south of there is the master-planned community of Lake Nona, a thoroughly modern set of neighborhoods with a Medical City of cutting-edge hospitals, research institutions, and private practices at the helm. Not far away, the up-and-coming Hourglass District and Conway area is driving attention for its attractiveness to new homeowners, small businesses, and local startups.
Despite where you choose to live in Orlando, there’s always plenty going on thanks to the Amway Center, Camping World Stadium, the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center’s year-round calendar of concerts, world tours and Broadway shows. The city has also become quite a destination for sports fans with hometown teams including the Orlando Magic, Orlando City Soccer Club and the Orlando Solar Bears.

Orlando is both an established city and one with much promise for future development. It’s one of the many reasons that makes buying or selling a home in Orlando a great investment.
