Walt Disney World® Resort put Kissimmee, Florida on the map when it broke ground in the late 1960s. Since then, the city just south of Orlando in Osceola County has also welcomed several other amusement park giants, including Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando. But what you might not know is that it’s also become a vibrant place to live in Central Florida, regardless of whether you’re a thrill-seeker or not.

Perhaps Kissimmee’s most recognized neighborhood is Celebration, the community developed by Disney and known for its small-town American charm. This quaint yet modern town has it all— apartments, mansions, and townhomes with perfectly manicured landscaping, whitewashed architecture and an intentional proximity to the House of Mouse. Celebration Town Center, the old- fashioned main street area lined with shops and restaurants, has become a gathering place for locals and visitors to the area.

Kissimmee’s other neighborhoods are predominantly populated with multi-story houses and bungalows designed for Florida living. Many feature screened-in pools, lakefront backyards and plenty of space for growing families to spread out. And while they too enjoy a coveted front-row seat to the theme park gates, they also provide access to some of Central Florida’s best natural attractions and entertainment.

Most notably, Kissimmee’s Lake Tohopekaliga (Lake Toho to locals) is abuzz with natives who come here to enjoy the popular waterfront park circled by walking paths, playgrounds and a scenic fishing pier. Just a short stroll away will bring you to the historic downtown district, reborn in recent years with small businesses, local cafes, bars and restaurants housed within original brick buildings. The Loop, Kissimmee’s core shopping area, is popular with both residents and visitors looking to fill their bags with bargains and essentials in one convenient trip.

Moreover, Kissimmee is fondly known as the “Gateway to the Everglades,” making it a great starting point for any outdoor adventure. Catch a glimpse of an alligator on an airboat ride. Watch a spectacular sunset at Twin Oaks Conservation Area. Play a round of golf or pedal along the 32 miles of bike trails at Shingle Creek. Kissimmee provides so many ways to get outside and soak up the Central Florida sunshine, and so many ways to do it all from your very own backyard.
